If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. John 12:26 - ESV
Today there is very little teaching about being a servant. If we were comfortable with Biblical slavery and servanthood, we would see more in books, songs, and people living it out. We are called to be servants. What does a servant do? He carries out the will of his master. A servant does whatever tasks the master requests of him. A servant doesn't choose what days or times it's most convenient to serve his master. A servant follows and obeys his master’s instructions.
Serve the Church
The first place to serve in is to serve our brothers and sisters of the faith. And we must do it with love. Not just serving, that just becomes a job, but when we do it with love, it becomes a lifestyle.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13 - ESV
Serve the World
The second place to serve is the world. To serve Christ by lips is an easy task– the world is full of those proclaiming faith while all the while living their lives for themselves. Costing little and satisfying most people. Our world hates those who follow Jesus with whole-hearted devotion. They are ridiculed, laughed at, and opposed. Yet as believers we are not to seek the praise of man, but of God.
As believers we are called to do the things that Christ has said, walk as He walked, go where He leads. God honors the servant who serves His Son. God will make amends for our worldly pain and loss. The reason we become servants to the world is to win souls!!
For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. 1 Corinthians 9:19 - ESV
How? It might mean we will have to go through tribulations, needs, sleeplessness (I know this one is tough), fastings. We must do it by long-suffering, kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God. 2 Corinthians 6:4-10
Lord thank you that you have chose us to be your servants. We were saved to serve you by serving our brothers and sisters in the faith, and by being your ambassadors to the world. Help us Holy Spirit to serve at anytime, anywhere, and anyone.
Jesus wants his servants to be ready and available to carry out his vision and love.
